Behavioral Studies and Solutions

Psychology is the Study of the Mind,  Personality  and Behavior in Humans.

Many people are confused about the difference between psychiatry and psychology. Though they are very similar by nature, they do have some major differences as well.

A psychiatrist has attended medical school and is a physician and therefore holds an M.D. (Doctor of Medicine) degree. In residency, he or she received specialized training in the field of psychiatry, in addition to all the rigorous training of medical school in general—and, just like other fields of medical practice such as internal medicine, psychiatry tends to focus mainly on the use of medications for treatment.

A psychologist usually holds a doctoral degree (a Ph.D., which means Doctor of Philosophy; a Psy.D., which means Doctor of Psychology; or an Ed.D., which means Doctor of Education) from a university or professional school. Generally, if he or she is in clinical practice, the degree will be in Clinical Psychology (although it might be in Counseling Psychology). With the exception of the Psy.D. (a purely clinical degree), all psychologists have had extensive training in research, having completed an original scientific study—called a doctoral dissertation—as a major part of the training.

Bellow, you will find books on psychology,  written by some of the greatest minds in the field, including Dr. Sigmund Freud,  Dr. Carl G. Jung, Joseph Breuer, as well as many others who helped transform the ancient witch hunts for the crazy into a modern science of the mentally ill.

The Principles of Psychology

$ 9.95 USD

The Principles of Psychology is a monumental text in the history of psychology, written by William James and published in 1890. There were four methods in James' psychology: analysis (i.e. the logical criticism of precursor and contemporary views of the mind), introspection (i.e. the psychologist's study of his own states of mind), experiment (e.g. in hypnosis or neurology), and comparison (the use of statistical means to distinguish norms from anomalies).

Introduction to Psychology

$ 4.95 USD

Wundt combined philosophical introspection with techniques and laboratory apparatuses brought over from his physiological studies with Helmholtz, as well as many of his own design. This experimental introspection was in contrast to what had been called psychology until then, a branch of philosophy where people introspected themselves.

The Psychology of Human Behavior is an outstanding introduction to the field of psychology, beginning with its historical context and looking ahead to some of the directions it is likely to take in the future. Though the course is not intended to be an in-depth exploration of this constantly evolving discipline, its 36 lectures work smoothly as an easy-to-follow primer and offer the ideal starting point for satisfying curiosity about how the mind works, the perspectives from which that question can be approached, and directions for further learning.

The Psychology of the Unconscious

$ 6.95 USD

Jung analyzes the religious sentiment and the difficulty of differentiating between human love and love of God or the divinity. By studying the interplay of the archetypes in the collective unconscious he reveals the psyche's capacity to rediscover in the present and in relatively new forms, experiences and ideas that marked the history of humanity. The second part introduces his concept of the libido, which he bases on his work on schizophrenia and which appears radically different from Freud's concept. Jung then goes on to describe his concept of incest, which is one of the pivotal points of his theory.

Dream Psychology

$ 4.95 USD

The words "dream interpretation" were and still are indeed fraught with unpleasant, unscientific associations. They remind one of all sorts of childish, superstitious notions, which make up the thread and woof of dream books, read by none but the ignorant and the primitive. Besides those who sneer at dream study, because they have never looked into the subject, there are those who do not dare to face the facts revealed by dream study. Dreams tell us many an unpleasant biological truth about ourselves and only very free minds can thrive on such a diet. Self-deception is a plant which withers fast in the pellucid atmosphere of dream investigation. Freud's theories are anything but theoretical. He was moved by the fact that there always seemed to be a close connection between his patients' dreams and their mental abnormalities, to collect thousands of dreams and to compare them with the case histories in his possession.

Studies in Hysteria

$ 3.65 USD

Studies on Hysteria was a book published in 1895 by Sigmund Freud and Josef Breuer. It contained a number of Breuer and Freud's case studies of "hysterics". It included one of their most famous cases, Breuer's Anna O., which introduced the technique of psychoanalysis as a form of cure. At the time of its release, Studies on Hysteria was not well received by the European medical community. It was not until years later that psychoanalysis was recognized as a legitimate psychiatric tool. In the book were presented two different viewpoints: a neurophysiologic and a psychological cause for hysteria. Breuer described the causes of hysteria by supporting a neurophysiologic cause, while Freud used a psychological standpoint.

The Practice Of Psychotherapy

$ 4.45 USD

This book provides insight into Jung's design on how to deal with psychological problems and analysis. One of the important things to Jung is the therapist's psychological state of developing the analysis itself as reflection of the patient-therapist relationship. The personalities of analyst and patient are usually more important for the outcome than what the doctor thinks. What thinks is a disturbing factor not to be understood. For two different characters to mingle two different mental substances in combination, both are changed. In any psychological treatment the therapist is bound to influence the patient; but this effect can only take place if the patient has influence on the analyst. No one can effect change if they are not susceptible to influence.

The Psychology of Reasoning

$ 4.95 USD

Based on the experimental research of hypnotism. The psychology of reasoning is the study of how people reason, often broadly defined as the process of drawing conclusions to inform how people solve problems and make decisions. It is at the intersection of psychology, philosophy, linguistics, cognitive science, artificial intelligence, logic, and probability theory. Research in this area addresses questions such as: The most famous example is Peter Wason's selection task, which tests how people reason about the conditional "if P then Q". Other popular tasks include categorical syllogisms and various logic puzzles like Sudoku.  Psychologically, what are the relationships between induction, deduction, abduction, and analogy?  What does it mean to be rational? Initially classical logic was chosen as a competence model. How does reasoning relate to intelligence? How do various related factors such as linguistic pragmatics and emotion relate to the inferences people draw?

His popular, though thoughtful, Contemporary Schools of Psychology was first published in 1931 and went into several editions.
