While we’d love to be tied to our desktops tweeting the day away, there’s a roof to keep over several heads so off to work you go. The tweeting doesn’t have to stop once we leave our desktop. No the takeover continues on your smartphone!

Whether you’re running Android, iOS, BlackBerry, webOS, or Symbian, there’s a Twitter mobile app for everyone. Here are 6 of our favorite picks across the market.

1. Twitter for iPhone, Official Twitter App

In April, Twitter acquired Tweetie 2, one of the most popular Twitter apps for the iPhone. It went from being a top paid app to an official Twitter app. Following the name change to Twitter for iPhone, Twitter also dropped the low price tag of the app to a grand total of free.

Twitter for iPhone includes handy new features such as search for your timeline, replies, and direct messages. Direct messages are also displayed in chat-style and can be deleted directly from the app. Other features of the official Twitter iPhone app include:

  • Save tweets as drafts
  • Geo-tag tweets
  • Address book access of Twitter followings

Twitter for iPhone is one of the most full-featured Twitter mobile apps available, firmly earning its spot at the top of our favorite picks.

2. UberTwitter for Blackberry, by UberTwitter

Ask any BlackBerry addict what Twitter app they’re currently using and you’ll hear UberTwitter more times than you care to. King of Twitter mobile apps for BlackBerry, users are touting the latest Beta-8 release. Sporting a clean and streamlined interface, UberTwitter includes key features such as:

  • Multiple Account Support
  • Trending Topics with background info on why they’re trending
  • Full Twitter Lists support (Create, Edit, Follow)
  • Keyboard shortcuts
  • Video embeds

The field-goal for UberTwitter is being able to update your avatar and profile right from your BlackBerry. Now you can put some of those office photos to good use.

UberTwitter is available for free. A premium version of this mobile app can also be purchased for $4.99 giving you unlimited upgrades and no ads for 1 year.

3. Twitbird for iPhone, By NibiruTech

Twitbird is another one of our favorite Twitter mobile apps for the iPhone. This app comes in three satisfying flavors: Free (unpaid, ad-supported, 2 accounts), Premium ($1.99, ad-free, 2 accounts, PUSH capabilities), and Pro ($2.99,ad-free, 16 accounts, PUSH capabilities).

Aside from small limitations in the free version, Twitbird offers full-featured access to many of Twitter’s best options. As my current default Twitter app for iPhone, Twitbird is far ahead of the pack. Features that make this app a must-have are:

  • Address Book
  • Inline picture preview
  • Tweet music/Now playing
  • Tweet your voice
  • Tweet video(3Gs only)
  • Save link to Readitlater, Instapaper or TwitBird
  • Custom background image
  • Mutual follow status between you and a user

Twitbird clearly takes the crown as the Twitter app with the most amazing features. We give this app bonus points for giving valuable features to everyone with excellent price points for a plethora of great options.

4. Touiteur for Android, by LevelUp Studio

Touiteur is a free Twitter mobile app in the Android App Market. Its slick interface design is even worth the premium price tag to customize it with your Android wallpaper. Features that make this Android jewel shine are:

  • Drop down tweet menu (similar to the Android notifications bar)
  • Copy to clipboard functionality
  • Old-style retweets
  • Ability to retweet search results and tweets in trends

The app is also very fast and responsive, or maybe it’s the Droid X that I’m trying it out on. With the Premium version of Touiteur you unlock: multiple accounts, with view filtering, 3 homescreen widget sizes (4×1, 4×2, 4×3), and an integrated browser and picture preview.

The premium version also has more customization options, such as the light theme, changing the bottom bar color, LED color for notifications, and custom ringtones for notifications

5. Seesmic for Android, by Seesmic

Recently breaking into the mobile market, Seesmic for Android is making huge strides in Android’s Marketplace. With an eye-catching tabbed interface, Seesmic combines your messages into one fluid stream. Multiple account support is a standard feature of Seesmic for Android. While you won’t find Facebook account support, the ability to cross post messages to another Twitter account or Google Buzz is available.

Using the Seesmic homescreen widget, you can quickly fire off a tweet or catch up on the latest tweets from friends. Two retweet styles are available: RT and Quote. Use Quote to get the manual retweet style for editing and adding comments. Thought it lacks support for bookmarking services like Instapaper or Delicious, using the share option will allow you to send tweets to your favorite service for later.

6. Tweetdeck for iPhone, by Tweetdeck

While the beta Android version of this mobile Twitter falls short of our requirements, Tweetdeck for iPhone is ahead of its class. Similar to its desktop companion, Tweetdeck allows you to sync your desktop groups with the mobile app. This eliminates the need to create a new Twitter List of friends that you want to keep track of. Tweetdeck features multiple account support for Twitter and Facebook making it a great mobile app for managing multiple social networks. Other features of Tweetdeck include:

  • Video upload to Facebook and 12seconds.tv
  • Multiple RT options
  • Group Syncing
  • Remembers recent hashtags

With a useful “Shake to Refresh” feature and a few themes, Tweetdeck is one of the most powerful mobile Twitter apps for the iPhone. You won’t be disappointed with the bells and whistles in this app.
